I-5 Replacement Of 26th Avenue Overpass

I-5 was closed all weekend in Southwest Portland for a project to replace the 26th Avenue overpass.

The overpass was over 60 years old.

The new overpass was built under the current overpass. Building the new overpass this way reduced lane restrictions on I-5.

The full closure of the freeway since 9 p.m. Friday allowed crews to remove the old overpass and resurface the new overpass to match the level of I-5.

The closure caused heavier than usual weekend traffic on I-84, I-205, Highway 26 and Highway 217 resulting in delays.

I-5 reopened at 4:45 a.m. Monday.
