A seven-day MAX disruption begins this Sunday, April 7, in Gresham to allow crews to make improvements to a decades-old rail crossing in the Rockwood Neighborhood. The Gresham MAX Improvements project, April 7-13, will disrupt MAX Blue Line service between the E 172nd Ave and Civic Drive MAX stations. Shuttle buses will serve the five closed stations, arriving about every 15 minutes throughout most of the day to match Blue Line service.
Crews will be performing most of their work at the intersection of East Burnside and Southeast Stark streets, an area over which automobiles, trucks and trains all travel. The rail crossing at this intersection—about 1,000 feet southeast of the Rockwood/E 188th Ave MAX station—is an original part of the MAX Blue Line, dating back to its opening in 1986. They will replace rail and the crossing itself for improved durability and a smoother ride.
Bus Line 20-Burnside/Stark will experience a minor detour in both directions to bypass the intersection. Riders will want to look for signs directing them to shuttle bus locations and temporary Line 20 stops. TriMet staff will be available during most of the disruption at E 172nd Ave and Civic Dr MAX stations to help riders make their connections. Riders can plan ahead now by going to trimet.org/planner and entering the dates for the disruption. Please note that bus lines 9, 20, 25, 77 and FX2-Division may experience higher ridership from April 7 through April 13.
MAX Blue Line will return to regular service on Sunday, April 14. Riders seeking more information can go to trimet.org/improvements.
