A North Precinct Officer’s proactive policing led to the capture of a robber in the act, and follow-up investigation has led to charges in multiple other felony cases.

On Friday, November 17, 2023 at 12:53a.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a robbery at a convenience store in the 6500 block of North Greeley Avenue. When officers arrived, they learned the suspect implied that he had a gun and left with an unspecified amount of cash. Officers attempted to find the suspect but they were unsuccessful.

A North Precinct Officer, suspecting that the robber may strike again, positioned himself to watch another nearby convenience store at North Killingsworth Street and North Greeley Avenue. About an hour after the first robbery, the officer saw the suspect entering the store. The officer requested cover units and coordinated a plan to address the crime in progress. Officers arrested the suspect in the store. He was armed with a firearm (photo).

PPB Major Crimes Unit responded to investigate. They booked Kirmarji T. Trent-Grant, 24, of Portland, into the Multnomah County Detention Center on Robbery in the First Degree with a Firearm, Robbery in the Second Degree with a Firearm, and Attempted Robbery in the First Degree with a Firearm.

Since that arrest, a Major Crimes Unit detective has connected Trent-Grant to additional open robbery cases. On November 24, 2023, Kirmarje Trent-Grant was indicted by a Multnomah County Grand Jury for Robbery in the First Degree with a Firearm (4 counts), Robbery in the Second Degree with a Firearm (4 counts), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public (Portland City Code).

Today, Wednesday, November 29, 2023, Trent-Grant was taken into custody at an arraignment hearing on the new charges.

The Major Crimes Unit is investigating additional cases and more charges are possible. They are asking for help from the public. Trent-Grant’s photograph is being released by PPB in an effort to locate victims of additional crimes. Notably, he wore the same hooded black jacket (pictured) with a white inverted triangle logo on every robbery. Trent-Grant is a Black male, 6 feet tall, 178 pounds, with long black hair and brown eyes. He usually wears a goatee, but in many robberies wore a mask over his face. If anyone as information about crimes connected to Kirmarje Trent-Grant, please e-mail Detective Matt Brown at Matthew.Brown@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 23-298803.
