I-84 Closure To Cause Delays

Travelers should plan for weekend detours of Interstate 84 at Interstate 205 the weekend of Oct. 6 for TriMet's A Better Red construction.

TriMet’s MAX improvements include building an additional set of tracks, two new bridges, a new track crossing, MAX Red Line station platform and a multi-use path near the Gateway Transit Center.

The new tracks will reduce delays that happen when trains traveling in both directions have to wait for oncoming trains to pass. With the Gateway Transit Center serving MAX Blue, Green and Red lines, helping Red Line trains move more efficiently will help keep trains on time across the light rail system.

Here are the details:

  • Work occurs from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 to 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9.
  • Drivers heading west on I-84 can use I-205 southbound and follow signs to I-84 westbound (Exit 21B). The exit to I-205 north is open during the weekend work.
  • Drivers heading east on I-84 should take an alternate route. They can take Exit 6 to Glisan Street, turn left and follow signs for I-205 north, then take I-205 north Exit 23B to return on I-205 south. Take Exit 22 toward I-84 east.
  • The Northeast 102nd Avenue on-ramp to I-84 west and I-84 east Exit 7 Halsey/99nd Ave off ramp will also be closed.
  • Drivers should plan for delays and take an alternate route or public transit. TriMet’s bus and MAX service will not be affected by the work
