On April 13, 2023, deputies were in the area of SW Kinnaman Road and SW 188th Avenue in Aloha on an unrelated call. At 9:20 p.m., the deputies were about to clear that call when they heard a thud in the road nearby. Deputies ran over and saw an elderly man lying in the ditch next to the road and a car fleeing the scene.
Deputies ran over and immediately tried to provide life saving medical car, but unfortunately the man died at the scene. He was identified as 85-year-old James Jungkeun Park. Deputies later learned Mr. Park was visiting a family member and was walking back to his own home nearby when he was hit in the road.
While those deputies tended to Mr. Park and secured the crime scene, other deputies began to search the area for the car and driver. The inter-agency Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) was called out to lead the investigation. A combination of security camera video and witness information led them to the car, which was parked a few blocks away.
Less than an hour after the crash, deputies found the driver at his apartment, which was also close by. He was identified as 55-year-old Anthony Castro Tenorio. Detectives arrested Tenorio and seized his car as evidence.
Detectives lodged Tenorio in jail on charges of manslaughter in the second degree, driving under the influence of intoxicants (controlled substances), and felony hit and run.
While examining the car, detectives found evidence that a different person, likely with long blonde hair, may have also been hit in a separate crash. Investigators have not yet been able to connect that evidence with other open cases and are seeking tips related to Tenorio or the car, which is a charcoal gray 2005 Ford Explorer with Oregon plate “519 CRU.” If you have any information, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 503-846-2700.
