Holiday travel is in full effect at Portland International Airport. The airport plans to welcome more than half a million travelers in the closing two weeks of the year.
From Monday, Dec. 19 through Friday, Dec. 30, PDX expects about 593,000 travelers. In these last two weeks of the year, the Friday before Christmas (Dec. 23) and the Friday before New Year’s Eve (Dec. 30) look to be the peak travel days with about 52,000 travelers forecast on each of those days.
When the clock strikes midnight on Dec. 31, the airport expects to have welcomed about 14.5 million travelers in calendar year 2022.
The busiest travel days will be the Friday before Christmas and the Friday before New Year's Eve. Around 52,000 travelers will move through the airport each of those days.
For the year, 14.5 million travelers will have moved through PDX. That compares with 11.8 million last year and 19.8 million before the pandemic.
