Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that Daniel Luis Cassinelli, 43, was arraigned on four counts of Rape in the First Degree, Sodomy in the First Degree, and two counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree.
The charges stem from an incident in 2015 while Cassinelli was working in loss prevention at a Portland Rite Aid. Cassinelli allegedly accused a female in the store of shoplifting and escorted her to a secluded room in the downstairs of the Rite Aid. Cassinelli allegedly used both his position of authority as a Loss Prevention Officer, along with the threat of reporting the female’s shoplifting to police, in order to make her feel that she was unable to leave. Cassinelli subsequently subjected her to a number of non-consensual sex acts. He then allegedly escorted her back to the main store upstairs and let her leave the premises.
Subsequent interviews with Cassinelli have led Portland police investigators and prosecutors to believe that Cassinelli may have committed similar criminal conduct with other victims. The Portland Police Bureau and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office are asking anyone who has information about Cassinelli to please contact Portland Police Bureau Detective Brendan McGuire at 503-823-0869 or Brendan.McGuire@police.portlandoregon.gov. Cassinelli worked in the Portland area in loss prevention at multiple locations during and after 2015. A photo of Cassinelli is attached to this release for inspection.
A charging document is only an accusation of a crime. Cassinelli is innocent unless and until proven guilty.
