SOLVE hosted its monthly Downtown Portland Cleanup Day, sponsored by The Standard and Swire Coca-Cola, with additional support from the City of Portland and the Portland Lodging Alliance.

Two hundred seven volunteers attended the cleanup events and collected an estimated 1,824 pounds of litter and debris from city sidewalks, parks, and business fronts.

The cleanup efforts kicked off at four different locations throughout downtown, including The Standard, The Benson Hotel, Waterfront Park, and Sport Oregon. The locations of the downtown cleanup events are very intentional, as these areas receive a ton of foot traffic from locals and tourists alike.

Volunteers received recycled grain bags to collect garbage, work gloves, a high visibility vest, and a litter grabber before receiving safety information regarding the cleanup. From 9 AM to 11:00 AM, volunteers spread out in the surrounding area, collected litter, and brought it back to the starting point for proper disposal coordinated by SOLVE.

Each month, SOLVE hosts multiple cleanups at various locations throughout downtown Portland. The next Downtown Portland Cleanup will be on Wednesday, October 19. Interested community members can learn more and register for the event at solveoregon.org.
