Oregon Tops 700,000 Cases Of COVID-19

There are 14 new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon, raising the state’s death toll to 6,899, Oregon Health Authority (OHA) reported at 12:01 a.m. today.

OHA reported 421 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01 a.m. today, bringing the state total to 700,361.

Today Oregon crossed the threshold of 700,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Oregon now ranks second lowest among states in the number of cases per capita (16,596 per 100,000). However, the pandemic isn’t over, and COVID-19 poses a risk to many people.

The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 across Oregon is 224, which is 24 fewer than yesterday. There are 34 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, which is four fewer than yesterday.

There are 99 available adult ICU beds out of 671 total (15% availability) and 369 available adult non-ICU beds out of 4,277 (9% availability).

Today, OHA reported that 2,826 new doses of COVID-19 vaccinations were added to the state immunization registry March 14. Of that total, 304 were initial doses, 304 were second doses and 855 were third doses and booster doses. The remaining 1,210 were administered on previous days but were entered into the vaccine registry March 14.

The seven-day running average is now 2,403 doses per day.

Oregon has now administered 4,172,607 doses of Pfizer Comirnaty, 241,319 doses of Pfizer pediatric, 2,729,635 doses of Moderna and 269,559 doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.

As of today, 3,168,610 people have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 2,876,447 people have completed a COVID-19 vaccine series.

  • Oregon’s 6,886th COVID-19-related death is a 69-year-old woman from Washington County who tested positive Feb. 15 and died March 3 at her residence. She had underlying conditions.
  • Oregon’s 6,887th COVID-19-related death is a 58-year-old man from Clatsop County who died Nov. 21, 2021, at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. The death certificate listed COVID-19 disease or SARS-CoV-2 as a cause of death or a significant condition contributing to death. He had underlying conditions.

  • Oregon’s 6,894th COVID-19-related death is a 45-year-old man from Multnomah County who tested positive Dec. 29, 2021, and died Feb. 2 at Providence Portland Medical Center. Presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed.

  • Oregon’s 6,897th COVID-19-related death is an 85-year-old man from Jackson County who tested positive March 3 and died March 9 at Three Rivers Medical Center. He had underlying conditions.
  • Oregon’s 6,898th COVID-19-related death is a 60-year-old woman from Lane County who tested positive on Jan. 13 and died March 13 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center Riverbend. Presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed.
  • Oregon’s 6,899th COVID-19-related death is an 85-year-old man from Multnomah County who tested positive Jan. 28 and died Feb. 11. Place of death and presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed.
