Firefighters rescued a resident from a large house fire in the Lents Neighborhood Monday morning.
The fire was so large, the first crews couldn't see the house.
A man escaped the fire through a second floor window and was ready to jump when firefighters got a ladder and helped him down.
The fire caused major damage to the home.
Items in the yard made it difficult for firefighters to access the building.
An investigator determined the fire was caused by a smaller dormitory-style refrigerator that was powered by an extension cord. Appliances should never be powered using an extension cord, because it will overheat.
