A driver is dead after crashing into the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland and setting off explosives.

The incident happened early Saturday morning. The suspect drove well into the building before setting off explosives.

Portland Police Chief Bob Day, "We know there was a crash here a couple of weeks ago where a security officer was injured, these events are unrelated in our opinion. Bad luck, or bad timing for the Multnomah Athletic Club, but we don't see any type of connection in that regard."

Day says there's no evidence it was domestic terrorism. The FBI confirms that finding.

Charles Leverton is general manager of the MAC, "We've worked through some hard times before. We're 135 years part of this community and as a key pillar, we've gone through some tough times and we'll get through this as well."

Police are waiting for the medical examiner to confirm the identity and notify relatives before releasing the suspect's name. The Oregonian reports it was a disgruntled former employee.
