The rainy season is the best time to plant trees and Portland Parks & Recreation’s (PP&R) Urban Forestry division will do it for you! The Urban Forestry (UF) team is giving away 4,000 trees this season for Portlanders to plant on their private property. So far, Portlanders have planted more than 3,400 of the trees, but there are still hundreds available!
Visit Portland.gov/free-yard-trees right now to register and see the types of trees available this year. Choose from native trees, trees with edible nuts, flowering trees, and trees rich with autumn color.
When registering, choose up to three free trees per address. Recipients will also decide if they would like the trees delivered to their home or if they would like Urban Forestry staff to plant the trees.
Along with the trees, recipients receive free mulch and an instruction booklet for how to properly plant and care for their trees.
Including this, the ninth year, the PP&R Urban Forestry Yard Tree Giveaway program has distributed nearly 12,000 trees!
