Containment Grows On Rowena Fire

Fire officials say crews are making steady progress on the Rowena Fire, in the Columbia River Gorge.

It’s now 24% contained at just over 3,600 acres.

Officials have confirmed nearly 150 buildings were destroyed in the fire. 56 of those are homes.

On Sunday, firefighters conducted tactical burns to create a solid perimeter and started work removing hazardous burned trees.

The Red Cross shelter remains open at The Dalles Middle School, although some evacuation orders were reduced over the weekend.
