The Oregon Employment Department (OED) has completed its review of approximately 12,000 1099-G tax forms that it identified as incorrect last month and began issuing manually-validated forms to Unemployment Insurance (UI) customers. Errors impacted about 5% of all 1099-Gs OED issued, meaning that approximately 238,000 customers received a correct form and should take no action.
“We’ve had more than 100 OED staff working through an intensive process of validating and reissuing forms in order to complete this work by next week,” said OED Director David Gerstenfeld. “I appreciate all of the staff who are working on this for impacted Oregonians. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused some of our customers.”
The agency is partnering with the Oregon Department of Revenue (DOR) to help impacted customers this tax season. DOR will provide simple options to update Oregon state returns on behalf of those who have already filed for 2024 using an inaccurate form.
All affected claimants will need to file their own amended federal tax returns.
OED has begun following up with each claimant to ensure they have the correct 1099-G and know their available tax filing options. Any claimants who do not receive a Frances Online notification, call, piece of mail, or email from OED regarding their 2024 Form 1099-G, do not need to take any action.
If claimants have not filed their taxes yet, they can use the corrected 1099-G to file their federal and state tax returns.
For claimants who have already filed their taxes using inaccurate forms, DOR has simple options for them to make the necessary adjustments to their tax year 2024 filing based on their individual circumstances.
Affected claimants can find information to help choose the best tax option for their individual circumstance at oregon.gov/dor. More details about the errors to Form 1099-G can be found at unemployment.oregon.gov.
