Metal Recycling Fire

Portland Fire & Rescue crews battled a four alarm fire at a North Portland metal recycling plant. The fire sent a large column of smoke over North Portland.

Firefighters used aerial ladders to dump water on the fire.

The facility is on the Willamette River. A fireboat tied up to the dock and used its pumps to send water to additional fire hoses.

The facility has vehicles, refrigerators and other metal products to be recycled. The vehicles were drained of fluids.

The business told fire officials they have a system that traps water from the fire hoses to be treated, so it won't flow into the river.

There have been no initial reports of injuries.

The investigation into the fire is just beginning.
