Joe Biden is not making it easy for his protectors in the media to keep covering for his flubs when it comes to addressing black voters and it is interesting to see the diversions that are popping up in order to take attention away from the former vice president's gaffes.
Last night, the mainstream media decided to focus on President Trump mispronouncing Thailand as "Thigh-land." The error allowed journalists who can't point out Thailand on a map to have fun at the president's expense, but it also created a diversion from yet another troubling remark Biden made about the black community.
In May, Biden told Charlamagne tha God that you “ain’t black” if you have second thoughts about voting for him. It was a bad blunder and the video clip was widely shared. It was in bad form, but Biden has enough black allies in the establishment that they were willing to jump on that grenade. After all, for Democrats, 2020 is all about defeating President Trump at all costs.
But earlier this week, Biden seemed to get flustered during another interview when he was asked by a black reporter if he ever took a cognitive test.
Biden responded that he did not take a test.
“Come on, man. That’s like saying you, before you got on this program, you take a test where you’re taking cocaine or not. What do you think? Huh? Are you a junkie?”
Biden seemed to survive that one. But on Thursday, the politician who spent four decades in Washington once again seemed to insult black voters. He said that “unlike the African American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community.” He was implying that black voters will vote Democrat no matter what.
Trump called the comment a “very insulting statement.”
Biden tried to clarify the comments on Twitter and said “in no way did I mean to suggest the African American community is a monolith.”
A Princeton study said that since 1968, no Republican presidential candidate has ever received more than 13 percent of the African American vote. The study said that although these voters are “committed to the Democratic Party” they are “actually one of the most conservative blocs of Democratic supporters.”
Buck Sexton, the host of “The Buck Sexton Show,” said Friday that if a Republican uttered what Biden said about black voters the politician would be banished from the public square, feathered and tarred forever.
“But with Joe Biden, it’s all just Joe. Yeah. It’s just Joe, alright,” Sexton said.
