Demonstrators Bring Change To Portland Police

Portland Police Chief Jami Resch says she listened to the community's call for change, so she is stepping down and recommends the Mayor appoint Portland Police Lieutenant Chuck Lovell as the new chief.

Resch says she called Mayor Ted Wheeler with the proposal Sunday night and he followed through with the idea.

Resch, who was appointed Police Chief about six months ago, will remain with the department in a role that's yet to be determined.

Lovell has spent a lot of time working in inner Northeast Portland with the African American community. He says they feel like they aren't treated the same by police.

Lovell said, "I'm humbled. I'm a public servant. I'm going to show up every day with a servant's heart."
