UPDATE: MAX service was restored around 5 p.m. Friday. TriMet continues to investigate what caused the damage.
MAX passengers experienced long delays due to damage to the power cable near the Hollywood Transit Center.
Thursday afternoon, a MAX train lost power near the Hollywood Transit Center. The train's operator got out and saw there was a problem with the pantograph, the piece of equipment that connects the train to the power cable.
The power cable and several of the poles that support the cables were also damaged.
Passengers were evacuated from the train. Most of them were able to walk to the Hollywood Transit Center Station. One person with mobility issues was evacuated by the Portland Fire Bureau.
Crews worked overnight to repair the damage, but the work continued into Friday afternoon.
TriMet ran shuttle buses between the NE 7th Ave and Hollywood Transit Center.
All MAX lines had delays of around 15 minutes.
TriMet is investigating the cause of the problem.
