Governor Kate Brown addressed the greater metro Portland community during on Monday during a meeting of the City Club of Portland. She shared an overview of her legislative priorities for the upcoming short session, including addressing climate change, wildfire response, and affordable housing.
"I’ve spent my career working to make Oregon a state where everyone can thrive, and an important part of that is planning for our future. We've been able to make significant investments in housing, education, and transportation. But Oregon’s state motto is 'she flies with her own wings,' not 'she rests on her laurels.' We have to keep working to chart the course for Oregon's future," said Governor Brown.
"We know that, if left unchecked, climate change will have devastating effects on all that we hold dear. Doing nothing is not an option. I am committed to crafting climate policy that protects our environment and also grows our economy. In Oregon, we can do both."
Governor Brown took audience questions on topics ranging from climate change and transportation to support for aging populations and earthquake preparedness.
