Mayor Ted Wheeler, City Commissioners and the City of Portland are asking everyone to show their support for downtown businesses and their employees this Saturday, Aug. 24.
The City has teamed up with the Portland Business Alliance, Travel Portland and many other partner agencies to encourage residents and visitors to come and enjoy all that Downtown Portland has to offer.
The goal of the “Shop. Eat. Play.” campaign is to help downtown businesses recover some of their losses while closed during protests that took place downtown on Aug. 17.
It’s also to encourage Portlanders and tourists to enjoy Portland as well. Several events were cancelled, and some Portlanders felt unsafe in our beautiful city. This campaign is to remind everyone what an incredible city we have and all the many great events taking place on any given day.
On Saturday, Aug. 24, shoppers and visitors can enjoy free parking on downtown city streets both east and west of the Willamette River, and at all Smart Park garages.
Portland Streetcar will be offering free rides all day, rideshare companies and taxis, as well as various scooter companies will also offer discounts using promo codes.
BIKETOWN is giving free rides all day.
Travel Portland’s website has all the details.
“Whenever a situation like the one last Saturday happens, it has a negative effect on our local business community, their employees, and their families,” Mayor Wheeler said. “This is the busiest time of year, and businesses large and small have been significantly affected so let’s show them some extra love on Saturday, Aug. 24th!”
