Portland City Hall Evacuation

Portland City Hall was evacuated, because of a suspicious package on Monday.

After the package was found, City Hall security officers ordered a lockdown and then an evacuation of the building.

Portland Police closed streets around City Hall and Terry Schrunk Plaza as a precaution.

The Explosives Disposal Unit's robot examined the package and determined it wasn't a threat. It did not contain explosions.

Police are not saying what the package contained or why it was considered to be suspicious, because they don't want copy cat incidents.

This is the second evacuation of City Hall this month, because of a threat. Mayor Ted Wheeler said it's difficult on staffers who have to work in a place where their safety is a concern.
