Officer Hurt Restraining Woman Attacking Cars

A Portland Police officer is recovering after being injured by a woman who was attacking cars with a knife.

The officers responded to a call for a welfare check near Northeast 33rd and Sandy Boulevard where a woman was armed with a knife and attacking cars.

She discarded the knife.

The suspect failed to comply with commands and less lethal munitions were deployed, which were ineffective.

The suspect attacked the officer and the officer deployed his Taser. At the same time, a security guard saw the officer under attack and the security guard deployed his pepper spray at the suspect. The suspect was ultimately taken into custody.

During the struggle, the officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The officer, a 2-year veteran, was treated at the scene by medical personnel.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The suspect's identity and charges will be released once she is booked into the Multnomah County Jail.
