The public is invited to June meetings in Multnomah, Columbia and Washington counties to learn about an 11-week closure of NW Cornelius Pass Road this summer during construction of safety improvements.
A Multnomah County Transportation project will make safety improvements to NW Cornelius Pass Road between Highway 30 and NW Kaiser Road starting in early July. Many vehicle crashes happen on the road. The project will reduce some of the road’s sharp curves, increase sight distance for drivers, improve road shoulders, and install caution signs, guardrails and barriers.
The public meetings are:
• Wednesday, June 5, 6 - 7:30 pm, Skyline Elementary School Gym, 11536 NW Skyline Blvd., Multnomah County
• Tuesday, June 11, 6 - 7:30 pm, Scappoose High School Auditorium, 33700 SE High School Way, Scappoose, Columbia County
• Monday, June 17, 6 - 7:30 pm, Westview High School Cafeteria, 4200 NW 185th Ave., Washington County
The meetings will include a briefing about the history and purpose of the project, what it includes, the construction schedule, traffic plan and future transfer of the road to the Oregon Department of Transportation. Display maps will show work locations and detour routes. Participants will have a chance to share their suggestions, concerns and questions with the project team.
When the road is closed to through traffic, access will be maintained for local residents and emergency services. Alternate routes for through traffic are:
• Cars and Pickup Trucks: From Highway 30 take NW Newberry Road, NW Skyline Blvd. and NW Old Cornelius Pass Road to Washington County
• Trucks: From Highway 30 take I-405 south to Highway 26 west. From July 19-29, large trucks will need to use the I-5/I-405 loop to reach Highway 26 from Highway 30, due to an ODOT highway project.
• Trucks Carrying Hazardous Loads: These trucks cannot use the Highway 26 tunnel in Portland. The detour is longer, taking I-5 south to Highway 217 north to Highway 26 west.
