Cyclist Injured In Crash

The Washington County Sheriff's Office investigates whether distracted driving played a role in a crash that injured a cyclist.

The crash happened SW Old Hwy 47 near SW Looking Glass Drive.

Deputies investigating the crash say 36-year-old John Worst of Gaston was riding his bicycle south on SW Old Hwy 47 when he was struck from behind by a small pickup truck. The truck was driven by 21-year-old John Reiger Jr. of Forest Grove.

Worst was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but sustained serious injuries and was transported to Oregon Health Sciences University by a Lifeflight helicopter. He is expected to survive.

Reiger remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment. He may have been distracted at the time of the crash; deputies are still investigating. He has not been charged with any crimes.
