A man who was suffering a mental health crisis was rescued from a Portland construction crane Wednesday afternoon. The crane is located near Southeast 2nd and Ash Street.
The crane was in operation when the man started to scale it. The crane's operator was able to lock down the crane and turn the power off before leaving.
Police partially evacuated nearby buildings and closed streets in the area to vehicles and pedestrians.
Police negotiators spent hours talking with the man and around 6:30 p.m. he safely came down from the crane. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
