Teacher To Be Starlight Parade Grand Marshal

David Bailey (a.k.a. Mr. Bailey) had one job to do, ushering young minds into adulthood, and he did it very well. As a teacher at Portland's Lincoln High School; Mr. Bailey spent the best part of fifty years educating more than 12,000 students at one of the west coast's oldest high schools. Lincoln celebrated 150 years in 2018 and Mr. Bailey, who taught U.S. history and government for one third of that time, decided that it was time to step away from the only teaching job he ever had.

In celebrating the rich history of the institution and the man, the Rose Festival has invited Mr. Bailey to be Grand Marshal of the Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade, Saturday, June 1, 2019 staring at 8:30 p.m. The PGE/SOLVE Starlight Parade starts downtown at NW 9th and Burnside and winds its way to Lincoln High School dropping Mr. Bailey back where it all began 50-years ago.

"We are so excited to honor someone who has taught generations of Portlanders, who make up our unique city," said Amy Johnson, Chair Starlight Parade Committee. "Particularly this year, with Lincoln High School celebrating 150 years of educating students, we want to highlight the value and significance of our educators."
