TriMet is encouraging riders to make the switch from paper tickets to the Hop Fastpass card, by holding exchange events starting Saturday.
To help you make the change, TriMet is holding a series of ticket exchange events at their ticket office at Pioneer Courthouse Square on select Saturdays.
Riders are invited to turn in unvalidated, foil-stamped paper tickets and, in return, receive a free Hop card loaded with value equal to the tickets.
Tia York, with TriMet, says Hop is their electronic fare system that gives riders benefits you don't get with paper tickets. With Hop, you'll never pay more than a day or month pass and you don't pay for rides you don't take.
York says TriMet is in the process of converting paper ticket machines at MAX stations to a Hop enabled-ticket, so the machines that are converted will no longer offer the multi-day passes.
You can use the Hop Fastpass card on TriMet buses, MAX trains, WES Commuter Rail, Portland Street Car, as well as C-TRAN and the Vine.
The first exchange event is Saturday, January 26th at Trimet's ticket office at Pioneer Courthouse Square from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Here's a list of the other upcoming exchange events:
Saturday, Feb. 23rd, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Saturday, March 30th, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Saturday, April 27th, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
At the exchange events, you can enjoy donut holes and coffee or tea and stock up on TriMet swag.
