Portland Rose Festival Needs Clowns

The Rose Festival Clowns are recruiting aspiring performers ages 13 and up. No experience necessary, we'll teach you. Be a part of the wacky class of 2019 Rose Festival Clowns and participate in parades and other special Rose Festival events. The clowns will be contributing their special blend of love and laughter to the local community during the annual Portland Rose Festival celebration May 24 through June 9.

Named one of the Best Educational Programs in the World for festivals and events by International Festivals and Events Association, the Rose Festival Clowns has become one of the favorite Rose Festival features. It's been a hit since its inception in 2008! More than 100 amateur clowns have blossomed under the guidance of international renowned Boss Clown Angel Ocasio, including students, teachers, lawyers, accountants, nurses, a judge and an international journalist -- to name a few.

A Rose Festival panel will select participants based on application materials, as well as a casual interview and audition piece. Audition material should be family friendly. Applicants are encouraged to tell a joke, do a magic trick, play a musical instrument or kazoo, juggle, spin a yo-yo and be creative like only they can. Recruits will participate in a weekend clown workshop, and be eligible to perform in three parades: The Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade, The Fred Meyer Junior Parade and the Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade.

For more information and application go to http://www.rosefestival.org/programs/clown-prince-clowns. Contact Angel Ocasio, Rose Festival Clowns Artistic Director at 360.901.6798 or email at angelo@rosefestival.org. Deadline for application is February 15, 2019.
