Three Fishermen Die Near Newport

The U.S. Coast Guard found the bodies of three fishermen who died after their boat capsized near Newport Tuesday.

The U.S. Coast Guard says they were notified of a boat needing assistance crossing the Yaquina Bay bar due to high seas Tuesday night. The Fishing Vessel Mary B II had capsized with three people on board.

The US Coast Guard, with their helicopter, found 48-year-old James Lacey of South Toms River, New Jersey, in the ocean and transported him to Newport's Pacific Communities Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Early Wednesday morning, the Newport Fire Department found 50-year-old Joshua Porter of Toledo, Oregon, on the shore near Nye Beach. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Mary B II ultimately ran aground near the north side of the Yaquina Bay North Jetty. The boat Skipper, 50-year-old Stephen Biernacki of Barnegat Township, New Jersey, was found with the boat and had died at the scene.
