Oregon Humane Society To Help Out Of Work Federal Employees

In an effort to support pet-owners affected by the government shutdown, the Oregon Humane Society is offering free pet food for federal employees and contractors on Thursday, Jan 10.

One bag of dog food and one bag of cat food plus cat litter are available for pet-owners who have been affected by the shutdown. OHS is working with Mud Bay and other vendors ensure there are enough food and litter on hand to help federal employees while continuing to provide the best care for pets in the shelter’s care.

“Pets play such an important role in our lives, especially during stressful times,” says Sharon Harmon, OHS President and CEO. “With more than 9,000 federal employees in our state, we wanted to do our part to help them care for their pets while they wait for the shutdown to be resolved.”

The pet food will be distributed Thursday January 10 from 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Oregon Humane Society’s storage facility, 8001 NE 14th Place, Portland. The building is to the north of the main shelter on Columbia Boulevard.
