Fatal Officer Involved Shooting In Oak Grove

A man was killed in a shooting that involved two Clackamas County Sheriff's deputies in Oak Grove.

At 3:10 a.m. Saturday, a Clackamas County Sheriff's deputy located an occupied vehicle parked along a short roadway that leads to Oak Grove Methodist Church on Rupert Drive.

The deputy contacted the vehicle's lone occupant, 50-year-old David John Engebretson of Milwaukie.

Engebretson had a warrant for his arrest and refused to get out of the vehicle. The deputy called for a cover unit.

A short time later, a second deputy arrived and one of the deputies radioed "shots fired."

There had been an exchange of gunfire between the two deputies and Engebretson.

Engebretson died as a result of a gunshot wound. The deputies were uninjured in the exchange.

The Clackamas County Major Crimes Team responded to the scene to gather forensic evidence and conduct an investigation.

Both of the involved deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave while detectives investigate the incident, per standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting. The investigation of the incident is ongoing.
