Arrest In Stabbing That Wounds Two

Early Saturday morning, police were called to a disturbance at an apartment complex located at 8231 Northeast Broadway.

When officers arrived they located two adult male victims suffering from what officers believed to be multiple stab wounds. Officers searched the area and contacted people in the area and learned the suspect was in a nearby apartment. Officers located and took the suspect into custody without incident.

Emergency medical personnel arrived and provided the injured men with emergency medical aid. Both men were transported by ambulances to Portland area hospitals for treatment of what were believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

During the continued investigation, officers located evidence of a disturbance and an assault in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Officers also located and seized, as evidence, the knife believed to have been used in the assault.

Members with the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Assault Detail responded to assume this investigation. Criminalists assigned to the Forensic Evidence Division also responded to assist with the investigation.

Based on preliminary information, investigators believe the victims and suspect were involved in a disturbance. During the disturbance, the suspect is believed to have stabbed the victims multiple times.

Investigators do not believe there was a danger posed to the public in relation to this incident.

The suspect has been identified as 53-year-old Michael J. Thomas. Thomas was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on two charges of Assault in the Second Degree.
