Portland Firefighter Faces Weapon And Drug Charges

Thursday afternoon, East Precinct Portland Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Southeast 81st Avenue and Stark Street after observing vehicle occupants engaged in suspicious activity. 

During the course of the traffic stop, officers searched the vehicle and discovered user amounts of methamphetamine and heroin, a short-barreled rifle and ammunition, and a loaded handgun.

The driver, 44-year-old David Nick Lloyd, was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Possession of an Illegal Weapon, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Heroin. 

The passenger, 35-year-old Jacob Allen Lieberman, was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a County Hold. 

Lloyd is a firefighter with Portland Fire & Rescue. He is an 18 year veteran of the department.  Lloyd  will be placed on administrative leave while an internal and legal investigation into the incident is completed. 

Fire Chief Mike Myers said, “As firefighters we are tasked with the health and safety of this city. As Fire Chief, I must maintain this objective with expectations of what it means to be a Portland Firefighter above all. I am gravely concerned with details of this arrest and I will be following this process closely.”
