Portland Police are investigating an incident Monday morning that apparently lead to a man’s death.
At 5:49 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the Court Louise Apartments, located at 13059 Southeast Powell Boulevard, on the report of a disturbance.
Officers arrived in the area and contacted several nearby residents as well as located blood on the ground in the north parking lot of the Court Louise Apartments. As officers continued the investigation, they learned several people heard what they described as gunfire or a vehicle backfiring. Shortly after hearing the noise a person saw a man, who appeared to be injured, moving towards Southeast 131st Avenue and Southeast Powell Boulevard.
As the investigation continued, investigating officers learned an injured man had arrived at a Portland area hospital by private vehicle with a serious life-threatening injury. The injured man died while at the hospital.
Based on preliminary information, investigators believe the deceased man was injured near the north parking lot of the Court Louise Apartments, made his way to the intersection of Southeast 131st Avenue and Southeast Powell Boulevard where he flagged down a passerby. The passerby transported the injured man to an area hospital for treatment of his injury.
The deceased is believed to be an adult male. Officers noted the circumstances were suspicious-in-nature, so members of the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Homicide Detail have responded to the scene along with criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division, a member of the Oregon State Medical Examiner and a deputy district attorney from the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death as well as work to confirm the identity of the deceased.
