Portland Police Shooting

Police Investigation

An investigation is underway into an officer involved shooting in Southwest Portland early Sunday morning.

It happened near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest and Southwest Harvey Milk Street. 

Police were patrolling in the area when they heard gunfire. Two people were wounded. Police confronted a person involved in the shooting and officers fired hitting the suspect.

The person was taken to a hospital and later died.

Police recovered a gun at the scene. 

The name of the person who was killed has not been released.

Per policy, the involved officers will remain on paid administrative leave until the completion of the investigation and Grand Jury. 

Following the Grand Jury, the Bureau may release additional information as appropriate. As part of the use of force review process, the Bureau will conduct an internal review of the entire incident and the case will go before the Police Review Board (PRB), which is comprised of community members, Bureau members and representatives from the Independent Police Review Division.
