Ohio Teen Missing More Than a Year After Father's Murder Found Alive

Authorities on Tuesday said a 15-year-old Ohio boy who had been missing for more than a year was discovered alive and safe in a basement.

Police say Jacob Caldwell was found after the department received a "very credible" tip on Monday that the boy was living in a home about 40 miles away in Miami Township in Montgomery County. Police obtained a search warrant for the home and and discovered the missing teenager alive and well, living in the basement with four other adults.

According to Sugar Creek Township Police Chief Michael Brown, Jacob was healthy, but quiet when police found him. It also did not appear as if the teenager had his hair cut since going missing more than a year ago. Police say they don't believe Jacob was being hidden away in the basement, but that it had been his "primary area of sleep."

Brown said it appeared as if all Jacob had been doing for the last year was sitting inside, watching TV, and playing video games.

The 15-year-old did not resist when officers took him into custody.

Jacob went missing a little more than a year ago after the teenager ran away from home after Jacob's father, Robert Caldwell, was shot and killed by his ex-wife, Tawney Caldwell on Aug. 15, 2017 WKEF reported.

The teenager was last seen outside a Walmart in Sugar Creek Township on Aug. 21, 2017 according to Sugar Creek Township Police Chief Michael Brown.

Authorities say they're considering filing obstruction of justice charges against the four adults found with Jacob

Jacob was taken to a juvenile detention facility on a previous warrant after he ran away from the home he shared with his father and stepmother, Brown said.

In March, local and federal prosecutors filed indictments against six people, including Tawnney Caldwell, in connection with Robert Caldwell's death, WHIO reported. Jacob's father, Robert, had just won custody of his children from his ex-wife when he was fatally shot.
