I-84 Closures Start Wednesday

road construction

Both eastbound and westbound Interstate 84 between Northeast 122nd Avenue and 181st Avenue will see full night closures this month as crews install new highway signs and sign structures.

Here are the details.

  • Westbound I-84 will be closed nightly from Wednesday, Aug. 22 through Thursday, Aug. 30 from Northeast 181st Avenue to 122nd Avenue. The closures will be in place between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and weekend nights between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
  • Eastbound I-84 will be closed nightly Tuesday, Aug. 28 and Wednesday, Aug. 29 between Northeast 122nd Avenue and 181st Avenue from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. both nights.

In addition, motorists should expect occasional nighttime lane closures in both directions of I-84 between 181st Avenue and Interstate 205. Please plan extra travel time.

Travelers should be extra alert in work zones. Last week, three flaggers were struck in a four-day period – one of them killed – in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Remember to slow down, be aware and pay complete attention at all times.

Detours

  • When the eastbound highway is closed, traffic will be directed off the highway at 122nd Avenue and may take Northeast Sandy Boulevard to 181st Avenue and the ramp back to eastbound I-84.
  • When the westbound highway is closed, traffic will be directed off the highway at 181st Avenue to Airport Way and to I-205 south back to I-84.

The work is part of an ODOT project toinstall, replace, repair and upgrade existing interstate signs and sign structures on I-84 and Interstate 5 to meet federal standards. The I-84 sign replacement project is scheduled for completion by fall 2018.
