Delay Re-opening I-84 Ramp

The Interstate 84 westbound ramp to Interstate 5 northbound ramp will re-open mid-day Tuesday, Aug. 7. The planned opening date was Monday, Aug. 6.

Hamilton Construction and ODOT crews found that the metal rebar, which is part of the ramp structure, below the existing concrete was broken in places and a hole through the ramp. Both the metal rebar and the concrete has been in place since the early 1960’s.

This extensive damage could not be seen until the concrete was removed.

The contractor to spend more time than planned to perform repairs to the metal rebar before placing new concrete. Then the concrete will need to cure for at least three days before it is strong enough to allow for traffic.

Properly completing these repairs now, will ensure that the ramps connecting I-84 and I-5 will continue to serve Oregonians, businesses and visitors for at least another several more decades.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during these multi-day closures and apologize for the delayed opening.

The I-84 westbound ramp to I-5 northbound closed on July 25. This closure is part of a project replacing concrete and other parts that connect the ramps on three ramps that connects I-84 and I-5. To learn more about this project visit www.BigFixPDX.com.
