Lottery Win Starts Retirement Right

A Riddle, Oregon man won the top prize of the Win for Life game and will take home $1,000 per week for life. He was set to retire from his millwright job a week from today.

Richard Nelson of Riddle will now receive $1,000 per week for life, thanks to his big Oregon Lottery win. He matched all four numbers for the Saturday, June 23 drawing. He purchased the ticket at a 1 AM Market on Main Street in Riddle. Nelson said he likes playing Win for Life and checks his tickets every Thursday and Sunday.

“I went into the market and scanned it and it said I have to go to the Lottery office,” he said. “I went to the clerk and had her check it. She told me she couldn’t pay more than $500, so I figured it was $501.”

Nelson then had the winning numbers printed out and when he checked his ticket, was in for quite the shock.

“I nearly fainted,” he said. “I am retiring on July 5, so this comes at a perfect time.”

Nelson, who has been a millwright for 18 years said he is going to use the money for retirement and spending time with his grandchildren.

“It didn’t really sink in until I got the check,” Nelson said. “I’m still a little rattled.”

Nelson will now receive a $1,000 per week for the rest of his life.

The 1 AM Market will receive a retailer sales bonus of $13,000, which is 1-percent of the 25 years of prizes Nelson will receive.
