Brush Fire Burns Along I-5

Clark County Fire District 6 crews battled two brush fires in the 7100 block of Northbound Interstate 5 shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

They were joined by two Vancouver Engines and a Water Tender to battle a fast-moving brush fire.

The flames moved up the hill on the east side of the freeway, near the railroad tunnel.

An estimated 20 firefighters grabbed wildland hoses to battle the blaze. They were challenged by steep terrain and surprisingly dry fuels, but they stopped the fire short of a stand of tall fir trees.

No one was hurt fighting the blaze. There is a homeless camp in the area and it’s estimated that some inhabitants were forced to leave because of heavy smoke.

The causes of the fires remain under investigation.
