Construction Project Starting On I-5

Night lane closures recently began on Interstate 5 as a project gets under way to improve safety and operations and pave the highway between OR 99W and Interstate 205.

All travel lanes will remain open days with night lane closures beginning as early as 8 p.m. There will be intermittent night lane and weekend ramp lane closures.

The project, which will continue until late 2019, will:

  • Pave I-5 from OR 99W to I-205.

  • Add a southbound auxiliary lane from north of Lower Boones Ferry Road to I-205. An auxiliary lane provides a lane from an on-ramp to the next off-ramp, reducing weaving crashes.

  • Add a second lane at the northbound exit ramp to Lower Boones Ferry Road.

  • Set the speed limit at 55 mph throughout the construction area. The 65 mph speed limit will return when construction is complete

  • Close the sidewalk at the Lower Boones Ferry Road southbound on-ramp during construction. A pedestrian detour will be in place
