Man Rescued In Camas Fire

Firefighters rescued a man who had become trapped after his Camas home caught fire Wednesday afternoon.

An alarm alerted the Camas-Washougal Fire Department to a home on NW 27th Avenue in Camas. When crews got there, they saw smoke coming from the front door of the house.

Fire Chief Nick Swinhart says as firefighters approached the house, they heard someone yelling for help from the garage.

Swinhart says the 70-year-old man who lived there had become disoriented and trapped inside the garage.

Firefighters were able to cut a hole in the garage and get the man and his two dogs out of the home.

The man was taken to a hospital with possible burns and smoke inhalation. His current condition is unknown.

The fire started in the kitchen near a sliding glass door, but the cause is still being investigated.
