Climber Dies In Fall On Mount Hood

A major rescue operations is underway on Mount Hood.

A climber who fell at least 700 feet was airlifted from the mountain Tuesday morning by the Air Force Reserve 304th Air Rescue Squadron to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. That climber died before arriving at Legacy Emanuel Hospital.

As many as 15 climbers are stranded near Hogsback. One of those hikers is injured, but the injury is not life threatening.

Rescue climbers are working to reach them and help them down the mountain. They want to get them down before rain and snow move in early Wednesday morning.
