New E-Mail Scam Targeting Netflix Users

The Grand Rapids police department issued a warning about a new phishing scam that attempts to convince Netflix customers to give up their billing information. The police department posted the warning to Facebook and included a screenshot of the e-mail.

The e-mail warns customers that their account will be suspended unless their credit card information is updated within 48 hours. The official-looking e-mail tells customers they must restart their subscription and provide updated payment information.

A similar e-mail was posted to Facebook by ABC11. A commenter on the post shared a screenshot of a third e-mail asking for updated credit card information.

The links in the e-mail take you a log-in page that looks almost identical to the official Netflix site. Users who log-in risk having their username and password stolen, and if they go through and update their payment information, the group behind the scam would have all the information they need to make fraudulent charges.

Police warned that people who receive the e-mail should not click the link. Even if you do not provide any information, the bogus site could still install malware or a virus on your computer. Anybody who has concerns about their account should go directly to Netflix.com and log-in from there.
