Two Killed In Highway 22 Crash

A crash Sunday afternoon on Highway 22E east of Detroit killed two people.

Investigators says a 2017 Nissan Armada, driven by 34-year-old Joshua Lyons, from Portland, was eastbound and attempted to pass on snow covered roads. The vehicle lost traction slide sideways, and struck the front of a westbound silver Chevy Silverado pulling an enclosed trailer, driven by 54-year-old Alan Freeman, of Salem. 

Lyons and his passenger 47-year-old Timothy Hays, from Silverton, were killed in the crash.

Freeman and two of his passengers, 33-year-old Shaun Dorschel, from Salem, and a juvenile passenger were treated and released for minor injuries from Salem Hospital. Freeman's third passenger, 56-year-old Donald Suklis, from Jefferson, was transported to St. Charles Hospital with serious injuries. 

The westbound lane was closed for approximately five hours. OSP was assisted by ODOT and Gates Fire Department.
