Portland firefighters responded to an apartment fire at 8130 SE Main Street Monday night.
When crews arrived they saw fire burning in two apartments.
Firefighters entered the apartments to search for trapped victims and to extinguish the fire. Firefighters found a teenage male unconscious in one of the apartments. The young man was transported to the Legacy Oregon Burn Center with life threatening injuries.
Finding and caring for the victim created a need for additional personnel and was a trigger for fire commanders to call for a second alarm.
The fire was knocked down within approximately 30 minutes and Portland Fire Investigators arrived on scene to determine what caused it.
Investigators are still working to learn the cause of the fire.
