A crash on snow covered Highway 26 east of Mt. Hood Monday afternoon killed two people.
Oregon State Police say 48-year-old Deirdre Mackey was driving her Nissan Versa with her daughter as a passenger when they slid sideways into oncoming traffic.
They were hit by a Subaru Outback that was driven by 41-year-old Darrow Rupp and his passenger 39-year-old Maria Veltman, both from Portland. They were transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Highway 26 was completely closed or limited to one lane of travel while this crash was being investigated for just over ten hours before being re-opened.
Driving too fast for the conditions is being considered a factor in this crash. The investigation is continuing.
