At the start of the morning commute on Monday, a truck carrying a container filled with hay overturned on I-5 northbound on the Marquam Bridge. The crash happened at the junction with I-84.
The trailer landed on a concrete barrier that ripped a hole in the side of the container.
ODOT had to close I-5 north and diverted traffic onto I-405. That caused long delays on I-5 north, U.S. 26 eastbound and I-205 north.
ODOT crews had to unload the hay before the tractor and trailer could be pulled onto its wheels.
The trailer was badly damaged and needed temporary repairs before a tow truck could haul away the semi.
The freeway was closed for around six hours.
