Central Point Man Arrested For Shooting Drone

A Central Point man has turned himself in for shooting down a drone.

On Tuesday, the pilot of the drone was flying it over the Hoover Ponds Recreation Area near White City in Southern Oregon when it was shot out of the sky.

The pilot was able to recover video from the drone that showed the suspect standing next to a gray 1994 Isuzu Trooper. He appeared to be pointed a rifle toward the drone just before it crashed.

Deputies determined the involved weapon was a high-velocity air rifle using .177 caliber pellet ammunition. The value of the drone was estimated at more than $1000.

Christopher David Grindstaff, 33, turned himself in to deputies after hearing about the case online. He was lodged in jail on one count of criminal mischief in the first degree, a Class C felony.
