Beaverton Basketball Coach Accused Of Sex Abuse

A local basketball coach was arrested for sexually abusing a minor. Due to his extensive contact with youth, Washington County Sheriff’s detectives believe there may be additional victims.

In December 2016, detectives assigned to the Washington County Sheriff's Office Child Abuse Unit worked with the Oregon Department of Human Services to investigate concerns that a local basketball coach had sexually abused an underage girl.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the coach befriended a family through his work as a youth basketball coach at Club Villa Sport in Beaverton. The coach subsequently sexually abused a teenage girl in the family on several occasions.

Detectives arrested Laurence Metz, 34, of Beaverton on October 6, 2017 and charged him with four counts of sexual abuse in the second degree. Metz was lodged at the jail. He posted bail and was released the same day. His next court appearance is Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Law Enforcement Center.

Metz coached youth basketball at Club Villa Sport in Beaverton. Detectives learned that Metz runs a company called Metz Basketball Academy and held classes at The Courts, a basketball gym in Beaverton.

Due to his extensive contact with youth over the years, detectives believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information on Metz is asked to call 503-846-2500.
